And it has nothing to do with Illinois.

The widely impressive battle against #2 Michigan led to a lot of emotions post-game on Tuesday night. And I think a lot of it stemmed from the FS1 television broadcast. I tweeted the following out that night:

I did receive some flack for the tweet but I stand by it. Until I learn differently, the Big Ten Conference should voice some opinions about a lack of apparent interest from their broadcast partner. I know FOX paid the bills but the Big Ten should require a quality broadcast, at the very least.

In fact, I was watching a STRIV broadcast tonight of a Nebraska high school girls varsity game and the play-by-play/color commentary was in many ways better. They appeared interested in the game in front of them. But they didn’t have the #5 and #2 teams in the country in their building.

Then you add the fact that the officiating in the game was inconsistent at best. I am not saying that it was THE determining factor in the game but that non-charge call in which Sam Hoiberg absolutely had legal guarding position and Trey McKenney threw his shoulder into him. That was the play of the game. It’s an obvious call and it didn’t happen.

Going on the road in the Big Ten and not getting a whistle is normal and somewhat expected. But when you combine the missed call, free throw disparity at the end (particularly calls on boxouts by Nebraska) and the absolutely embarrassing broadcast by Fox Sports One, it could lead a fanbase to be somewhat angry.

So let’s hope it shows up on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Illinois. It’s a white out for the fan base already so lets bring a little bit of anger to the atmosphere and keep it going for the rest of the season.

Pochettino says World Cup prices nothing to do with USMNT
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — United States coach Mauricio Pochettino said it was not his job — nor that of his players — to evaluate or weigh in on the price of tickets for this summer’s World Cup.

The comments came during a Zoom call with reporters on Thursday when Pochettino was asked about American winger Timothy Weah’s remarks in the French press in which he suggested tickets for the World Cup were too expensive and that many fans wouldn’t be able to afford to go.

FIFA is charging up to $8,680 list price per ticket for the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19 in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, and as much as $175 for parking spots. While there are more affordable markets, average ticket prices have been criticized by many, including supporter groups from around the world
