New official merchandise for Avengers: Doomsday reveals variants of Dr. Doom. Still nearly a year before Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next culminating film hits theaters, and yet, Disney is already busy promoting the project. Marketing for Avengers: Doomsday started back in December, when mini-teasers began trickling in, offering fans an idea of what to expect from Marvel Studios’ biggest project since the Infinity Saga wrapped up in 2019.
Multiple Avengers: Doomsday trailers have shared looks at the movie’s most prominent players. Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers has finally been announced, while Thor’s return to his Shakespearean roots has been confirmed. The mutants, as well as the Fantastic Four and Wakanda-based heroes, led by Shuri as the new Black Panther, have had their own promo clips. As the wait for Marvel Studios to unveil Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom continues, new tie-in releases give fans a glimpse of the villain.

The standout pieces, however, seemingly reveal variants of Dr. Doom. The clip is taken at the Futures Festival at Pinewood Studios and features various items, including a printed shirt with the villain being described as “constipated,” “overwhelmed,” “sad,” and “lonely,” among others. The video also shows an illustration of the primary players in Avengers: Doomsday. Some of them have already been revealed through the trailers that Marvel Studios has rolled out thus far, although it’s interesting that Steve is not part of it. Perhaps it’s an indication of the role that he will play in the film. In any case, since this is the first culminating MCU project since the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame, it will be interesting to see how directors Joe and Anthony Russo mix and match the characters.
As for Dr. Doom’s variants, there have been rumbles about this in the past, although nothing substantial to fully back up the idea. Assuming that Avengers: Doomsday does include all of these versions of the character, it will be curious how the Russos establish and utilize them effectively in an already packed film. It’s also worth noting that featuring these variants is reminiscent of the now-abandoned plan for Kang the Conqueror, which begs the question if that was repurposed to fit Marvel Studios’ new direction.
Historically, Marvel Studios is very secretive about their projects, especially their crossover endeavors. That said, considering the tumultuous Multiverse Saga, it’s understandable if they are more willing to reveal information about Avengers: Doomsday as early as now, if it means driving up the interest in it.
