NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A pet kangaroo was safely captured after being found on a road Saturday, January 31, according to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.
Lieutenant Bodek and Deputy Richardson responded to the intersection of Thomas Nelson Highway and Oak Ridge Road for a report of a kangaroo in the roadway obstructing traffic.
Deputies say they found the kangaroo injured and were able to guide it off Route 29 onto private property along Oak Ridge Road. With the assistance of Conservation Police Officer Andrew Sundra, Nelson County deputies were able to safely capture the injured kangaroo, according to deputies.
The owner of the kangaroo was contacted and responded to the area, according to deputies. Deputies say the kangaroo has been returned to its owner and is expected to make a healthy recovery.
