A mountain lion was spotted multiple times Sunday morning around Sebastopol, according to police.

Between about 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., residents reported seeing a mountain lion in backyards on Jewel Avenue, Walnut Lane and Shaun Court, Sebastopol police Sgt. Cameron Fenske said. In a video posted by North Bay Animal Services, the contracted animal control provider for Sebastopol, a mountain lion is seen simply walking around a back patio area.

A mountain lion was last spotted on First Street and seemed to be headed west, Fenske said. Another witness called about 11:30 a.m. to report a photo of the animal taken near Lynch Road, but it’s unclear when the photo was taken.

Officers, North Bay Animal Services and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the area to search. They eventually left after not spotting the mountain lion and reports stopped.

Fenske said authorities believe the animal has left the area.

Sebastopol police asked that anyone who spots a mountain lion call the police station at 707-829-4400 or animal services at 707-762-6227.
