A mountain lion was sighted within Sebastopol’s city limits Sunday morning, according to police – days after another one was spotted in San Francisco and released.
The animal was reportedly spotted in backyards near Jewel Avenue, Walnut Lane and Shaun Court, in the southern end of Sebastopol. The most recent sighting was on First Street, and the animal appeared to be headed west, police said.

A photo, posted on social media by the Sebastopol Police Department, shows the mountain lion sitting by a fence and next to a tree in a backyard.
The sighting comes just days after a mountain lion named 157M was seen traipsing through Pacific Heights in San Francisco. The male, not quite 2 years old, was safely tranquilized and captured after a 30-hour search Tuesday and has since been released back into his habitat in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Sebastopol police suggest that residents in the vicinity of the sightings keep pets inside and request that anyone who sees the mountain lion call the police station at 707-829-4400.
