The demanding role of Angela Norris on Landman is not a cinch to play in general. With so many viewers raptly taking in every nuance, actress Ali Larter has to hit the mark every time. But some episodes are more grueling for her than others.

She recently shared with People exactly what she means. The anguish of becoming an empty-nester faces Angela. Larter had a duty to convey that intense maternal misery. Not only was her little girl growing up, but Angela now has to redefine herself. And Larter had to capture that emotion.

She shared, “Episode 9 [of Season 2] was a really painful episode for me to shoot. I think it was one of the toughest scenes.” Larter added, “Angela feels like it’s a loss in her life, with her daughter leaving. I have a lot of friends that are empty-nesters, and I have seen those ugly sobs,”

Larter’s Character on ‘Landman’ Feels Bereft When Her Daughter Leaves Home

Many moms will identify with Angela’s plight as she watches her daughter grow up and embark on a new phase of her life. For Angela, it’s a key turning point, too. It feels overwhelming for her to navigate.

Ali Larter observed, “I think that Angela doesn’t really feel like she has a purpose without her daughter. What is her life going to look like, with her growing up?”

Angela has to find a new focus and purpose. That can be very daunting in real life. But Larter seems to have nailed it on screen. She told the outlet, “I’ve been hearing from all these mamas about being able to see that [moment], and that it made them emotional. Because that’s the reality of it when you raise these babies, and then they take off and start their life, and who are you? What’s your identity without them?”

Another Type of Scene Gives Her Problems

Larter confided that she struggles wit a different kind of scene. It involves baring her body, not her soul. They are the scenes where she dons a bikini. Being so scantily clad in front of millions of people is not easy.

“I don’t think there’s an actress alive that’s like, ‘Woo! Got a bikini scene!’ Nobody wants to do it. Those are the hardest for me. I don’t enjoy them. It’s just part of the story that I’m telling, and I’m an actress, so I get on board. But those are definitely my least favorite.”
