Amid the reports surfacing on Monday, one cannot help but bring to mind the events of last June 12: A U.S. envoy arrived in the Middle East for an imminent meeting with an Iranian official. The United States and Iran would return to negotiations on a new nuclear agreement in the shadow of a security crisis. But it turned out that U.S. President Donald Trump had deliberately misled the Iranians and given Israel the green light to launch an attack on the nuclear sites. That summit never took place.
