Dillon Brooks continues to evolve
Fresh off being named the Western Conference Player of the Week, we take a look at Dillon Brooks, whose emergence as a scorer has changed the game for the Phoenix Suns this season.
Brooks (21.1 ppg, including 28.8 ppg in his last four games) has crested over the 20+ ppg mark for the first time in his career, including putting up the first 40-piece of his career against the Pistons Jan 29.
He’s shooting a career-high from the field (44.6/36/85.5 splits), becoming a workhorse for an at-times beleaguered Suns offense.
The volume is high — 17.2 FGA, good for 22nd in the NBA — and his net rating is only 0.2, which is 11th on the team. But the spirit is always willing.
With Jalen Green ailing, Brooks is the Suns’ secondary creator, providing a hammer to complement the stylish maneuvering of Devin Booker and slick decisions of Collin Gillespie.
He’s averaging a higher EFG than Booker — 51.8 to 50.3 — while also continuing to bring defensive intensity to the NBA’s sixth-best defense (112.0 defensive rating).
Brooks is physical, stocky, and capable of taking any shot. His bag is deeper than you’d think — let him get into a groove, and he can burn you.
When Brooks puts it all together, he’s a two-way force, building on his fiery competitiveness and underrated skills to elevate the Suns.
“It was special just to see him competing on both ends, making plays, and making the right read,” teammate Royce O’Neale said after Brooks dropped 40.
Will he keep it rocking against the Trail Blazers and All-Star wing Deni Avdija tonight? Catch the contest on NBC and Peacock to find out.
