BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — County, city, and town governments across western North Carolina announced operational changes and closures for Monday, Feb. 2, due to lingering impacts from the weekend winter storm.
DUKE ENERGY URGES CUSTOMERS TO CONSERVE POWER ON MONDAY
Asheville
City of Asheville government offices are scheduled to open Monday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. Parks & Rec community centers will open from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
ART bus services are scheduled to resume at 1 p.m. Monday, pending road conditions.
Trash and recycling pickup is canceled for Monday. City officials say updates will be shared as conditions are reassessed.
Drivers are asked not to use city street parking to allow road crews room to clear snow. City-owned parking garages are free through 10 p.m. Monday.
Buncombe County
According to a Sunday evening post, Buncombe County administrative offices will open at 11 a.m. Monday, as will county parks and Pack Memorial Library. All other county libraries will be closed Monday as part of their regular schedule.
The landfill and transfer station will open at 10 a.m. Monday.
FCC Environmental will not operate Monday due to road conditions. County officials said they will operate on a one-day delay this week, with Monday collections being picked up Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday, and so forth. Friday collections will be picked up Saturday, and due to missed Friday collections the week of Jan. 30, excess bagged trash outside of the cart will be collected.
The Buncombe County Courthouse will operate on a delayed schedule, opening at 11 a.m. Monday. The District Attorney’s Office said it will limit court business to essential operations only, and all other matters will be continued to a later date once travel conditions improve.
Haywood County
All Haywood County offices and facilities are closed Monday, Feb. 2, due to winter weather impacts. The closures include solid waste facilities.
The Haywood County Board of Commissioners meeting, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 2, has been canceled.
Town of Waynesville offices will be closed Monday, and trash services will be delayed until Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Canton Town Hall will be closed Monday.

Henderson County
All Henderson County government offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 2, due to road conditions. Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday’s Special Called Board of Commissioners meeting for Bat Cave has also been canceled and will be rescheduled to a date yet to be determined.
Apple Country Public Transit will not run Monday due to road conditions.
Jackson County
All Jackson County government facilities, including the Jackson County Justice and Administration Building, will have a delayed opening of noon Monday, Feb. 2.
Trash collection for the town of Sylva has been canceled for Monday, Feb. 2. It will be rescheduled for the earliest possible time.
Transylvania County
Transylvania County’s nonemergency offices and buildings will be closed Monday due to hazardous road conditions.
Brevard City Hall will open at noon Monday, Feb. 2, with reduced staffing, and the City Council meeting will go on as scheduled Monday at 5:30 p.m. Brevard officials said trash pickup will resume Monday.
Madison County
All non-emergency services and offices of Madison County government will be closed Monday, Feb. 2.
The town of Marshall is operating on a two-hour delay Monday, with Town Hall opening at 10 a.m. There will be no trash collection in Marshall Monday, which will be moved to Tuesday, Feb. 3.
McDowell County
McDowell County administrative offices will be closed Monday. The McDowell County Transfer Station and the 226 Convenience Center will be open on an adjusted schedule from noon to 4 p.m.
City of Marion administrative offices are closed Monday.
Mitchell County
Mitchell County government offices will be open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday. Recycling centers at Altapass, Buladean, and Snow Hill will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Mitchell County Transportation and the Pine Line will be closed Monday.
Mitchell County Commission and DSS Board meetings scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, have been canceled.
Polk County
Polk County offices and service departments are closed Monday.
Columbus Town Hall is closed Monday. Call 828-894-8236 with concerns.
Rutherford County
Rutherford County’s Transit Service is closed Monday, Feb. 2.
Yancey County
Yancey County offices, recycling centers, and the landfill will be closed Monday due to snow.
Burnsville Town Hall is also closed Monday.
