Syracuse, N.Y. — Class of 2027 defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery has decommitted from Syracuse.
Montgomery, a three-star prospect, was the second player to exit the Orange’s 2027 recruiting class on Tuesday.
“After much thought and consideration and taking the time talking to my family I’ve decided to make the hard decision of decommitting from Syracuse University and reopening my recruitment,” Stanley said in a statement posted on social media.
“I want to thank Coach Fran [Brown] and the rest of the staff for taking the time to recruit me. I’m excited to see what the future holds with reopening my recruitment.”
Montgomery completed a visit to Penn State over the weekend and announced his 17th Division I offer from Michigan State after announcing his decommitment.
The Archbishop Ryan (Pennsylvania) product is already a two-time All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection. At 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, he is one of the most physically imposing players in one of the best private leagues on the East Coast.
Montgomery also holds Power-Four offers from Virginia, Boston College, Duke, Cincinnati, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 53 defensive lineman in the country.
Syracuse went from 10 commitments to eight on Tuesday and dropped from the fifth-ranked 2027 recruiting class to the seventh. Syracuse still, however, has the top-ranked recruiting class in the ACC.
