ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) – A special celebration took place Wednesday evening in Ishpeming.
The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame hosted a three-part celebration: commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Suicide Hill Ski Jump, recognizing of the contributions of Dave Holli and a screening of the film ‘Michigan’s Skiing Legacy’ by Ryan Busch.
The Hall of Fame is the only national museum located in the U.P.
Busch says he hopes people left the celebration with a greater appreciation for the special place Upper Michigan has in skiing history.
“There is a legacy here, being the birthplace of organized skiing in the United States,” Busch said. “That’s why the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame is here. And there’s so many other legendary volunteers that really pushed the narrative of Michigan’s skiing legacy and our beautiful Upper Peninsula.”
The Hall of Fame will recognize this year’s inductees in April in Snowbird, Utah. If you’d like to learn more about Busch’s films, find his website here.
