TRUCKEE, Calif. – New details surrounding the recent wolf presence near Truckee reveal the activity came from a male dispersing from a pack near Lassen County, according to California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The male, which originated from the Harvey Pack and is titled Harvey Disperser – 2, was in the Truckee area on the night of Jan. 31 and the early morning of Feb. 1.
By 1 p.m. on Feb. 1, the department says the wolf was several miles from Truckee and further away the morning of Feb. 2.
Harvey Disperser – 2’s last location was in Nevada County before he moved into Nevada, according to CDFW’s publicly available wolf tracker map. The map will not display the wolf again until it returns to California.
The Harvey Pack was first confirmed in the summer of 2023 and produced a litter of eight pups in 2024. In January of last year, CDFW collared four of those pups.
The pack had at least seven pups in 2025.
