Dan Orlovsky Says Ravens Have Assembled NFL’s Best New Coaching Staff

The Ravens landed the most sought-after new head coach of this hiring cycle in Jesse Minter, and he has wasted no time assembling a star-studded staff, headed by Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle and the expected hiring of Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky believes the Ravens have the NFL’s best new staff.

“I’ll start with Jesse,” Orlovsky said on the “The Ryan Ripken Show” at Super Bowl Radio Row. “When you have the opportunity to call these games and you sit down with coaches, you very quickly, within a matter of minutes, know the guys where you’re like, ‘You’re a head coach.’ Jesse was one of those guys. … You just hear how he communicates, how he listens, how he answers questions, his vision of football, team, the clarity, and you go, ‘That’s a head coach.’

Regarding Doyle and Weaver, Orlovsky said: “For me, [an offensive coordinator] has to come from the [Mike] Shanahan [Sean] McVay tree. … [Doyle] may not come from that tree, but it’s the same fruit. So I like that Declan Doyle learned under that style of football.

“Anthony Weaver is another guy [that] when you sit with him, you go, ‘Yep, that’s going to be a head coach.’ I thought the Steelers should have hired him, no offense to Mike McCarthy at all. But he just has a great understanding, vision, communication, and clarity. And so I love this staff that they’ve put together. I don’t expect them to skip a beat at all.”
