WAYNE, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The ‘Do Not Consume’ order is still in place for Wayne Water customers.
This comes nearly three weeks after vandalism caused oil to spill into the water.
Wayne Mayor Danny Grace says they will begin flushing residential water lines on Thursday.
The notice from the town says:
“Based on recent testing results conducted as a result of the ‘Do Not Consume’ notice, recent sampling data does not indicate harmful contaminants are present in your drinking water. Even though all recent data suggests no health risk, as a precaution, the ‘Do Not Consume’ remains in place but has been modified to a ‘Do Not Drink.’ The water can be used for all other normal activities including bathing, laundry, washing dishes, etc., except drinking or cooking. In addition, you can flush the lines in your home or business to ensure you are receiving recently treated water at your tap.”
If you have a specific health concern, you can consult your primary care provider or use an alternate source of drinking water.
Wayne residents can also request bottled water by calling (304) 272-3221.
The notice goes on to say residents should:
Flush household plumbing, including hot water heaters, by running hot and cold water at each faucet for at least five minutes or until no unusual odor is present.Flush refrigerator water line for at least five minutes or until no unusual odor is present.Dispose of and make at least three batches of ice if using an automatic ice maker. After flushing, replace all household water filters (refrigerator, sink mounted, pitcher, etc.) Note: boiling water does not remove contaminants in your water.
