The Seattle Seahawks made the bold decision to trade their franchise quarterback after narrowly missing the playoffs last year, and the move has paid immediate dividends. After bringing in Sam Darnold to replace Geno Smith, the Seahawks have found themselves in Super Bowl LX, where they’ll be facing the New England Patriots.

Darnold has been dealing with an oblique injury throughout the playoffs, but it’s something that Darnold and the Seahawks are managing well, per head coach Mike Macdonald.

Sam’s right on schedule,” he said. “So we’ve had this plan here over the last X amount of weeks, and it varies every day. And today he had a great day, so we’re right on schedule.”

Unfortunately, another critical piece, this time on the defensive side of the ball, rookie Safety Nick Emmanwori, has found himself on the injury report with only days to go before the Super Bowl.

“He had an ankle today, we brought him in to look at it, and we’ll kind of go from here and figure out what are the next steps,” Macdonald said of Emmanwori on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the head coach confirmed Emmanwori’s diagnosis, and it’s a brutal one, but he’s optimistic his standout defensive back will be good enough to go come Sunday.

“Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald told reporters that S Nick Emmanwori suffered a low-ankle sprain Wednesday, but he is “confident” that he will play in Sunday’s Super Bowl,” reported EPSN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.

It’ll be interesting to see if and how these injuries impact Seattle on Sunday.
