India registered its lowest monthly import of crude oil from Russia in December 2025, reflecting the impact of the US imposing sanctions on two russian oil majors, Rosneft and Lukoil. India imported crude worth $2.7 billion in December 2025, the lowest since February 2025. The December supplies of Russian oil to India were around 27 per cent lower than the $3.7 billion worth of imports in November 2025, and over 15 per cent lower year-on-year (YoY). However, the emails sent to oil marketing companies—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Reliance Industries—seeking details of their purchases from Russia did not draw a response, according to a report by the Times of India.
