A day after Super Bowl 60 wraps up in Santa Clara, another big sporting event is set to kick off: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.On Friday, final preparations were underway for the popular golf event, which offers fans some of the sport’s biggest stars.“The best of the best — 89 of the top 90 players — are at Pebble Beach. The only one not here is Justin Thomas, who’s recovering from a back injury. But Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler — you name it, they’re here. So for golf, there’s no better place to be than Pebble Beach,” said Steve John, tournament director and CEO of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation. The same goes for Super Bowl fans, some of whom are staying in Pebble Beach ahead of Sunday’s big game.“Well, Pebble Beach specifically — this place is gorgeous. It’s what we expected, but I didn’t expect how gorgeous it would be,” said Jackson Murray, in town from Atlanta.“Coming for the Super Bowl, watch the big game on Sunday, play a little golf tomorrow, too,” added Charlie Carson, visiting from Nashville. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am kicks off Monday with practice rounds, a day after the Super Bowl. The last time the Super Bowl was played at Levi’s Stadium was 10 years ago, and tournament organizers say many fans stuck around for some great golf.“We definitely saw a boost in ticket sales last time at the 50th playing, so we’re hoping again there’s probably a bump in the middle of the week next week, when people realize that Pebble Beach is not that far away from Santa Clara,” John said.Organizers saw another ticket boost this week when they announced pop star Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce, will be part of amateur play.“Ticket sales took a little boost yesterday when we announced that Travis Kelce is going to be playing in the tournament. Taylor Swift is not expected to be here, but we had a significant boost — about $50,000 in about eight hours — with Travis Kelce coming. He was playing in the Phoenix Pro-Am on Wednesday, and it was quite a boost there as well,” John said. And who was seen with Kelce in Phoenix? Taylor Swift. Organizers say Swift won’t be on site, but there’s nothing to indicate she won’t be in town.“The Swifties are loading up — they’re an army. I’ve heard the Swifties travel. They have a sixth sense for her. I hear she’s coming. They’re buying the tickets. They’re going to be there. Don’t doubt the Swifties — they’ll show,” said Kylie Callocchio, visiting from Atlanta. With or without Swift, golf fans will be in for the ultimate experience when practice rounds begin Monday and play begins Thursday. Plenty of tickets are still available. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is one of the largest charity events on the Central Coast, having donated more than $18 million to more than 200 charities across Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
