“Move and don’t look back.” Those words from Ryan Phillippe‘s Danny to his daughter Alex (Amélie Hoeferle) at the opening of the tense, action-packed trailer for survival thriller One Mile. It’s actually one movie split into two from Paramount‘s Republic Pictures label and Aaron Kaplan‘s Kapital Entertainment.

One Mile was written by John Hlavin based on an idea by Kaplan’s daughter, Jaiden Kaplan, with rewrites by TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson who worked on Kapital’s Showtime series The Chi. In the film, when an estranged father (Phillippe) and daughter (Hoeferle) go off for college tours, they get more than they bargained for when they get lost and stumble across a hostile, off-the-grid community.

Per the official synopsis: An ex-special forces operative (Phillippe) goes off-the-grid when his daughter (Hoeferle) is kidnapped by a violent community. Alone and outnumbered, he’s forced to use every skill he has to track them down, take them apart, and bring his daughter home.

“These guys don’t know it yet, but they messed with the wrong dad,” Phillippe’s Danny says at one point in the trailer.

Cast also includes C. Thomas Howell, Richard Harmon, Sara Canning and Sage Linder.

Jaiden Kaplan came up with the idea for One Mile while she and her dad were on a college tour in the Northeast in 2019 and were driving on a particularly desolate highway surrounded by woods on one side and half-frozen lakes on the other. Jaiden Kaplan served as a producer on the film.

One Mile is directed and produced by Adam Davidson. Phillippe and Davidson produce alongside Jaiden Kaplan. Aaron Kaplan and Michael Lohmann produce for Kapital.

One Mile: Chapter One and One Mile: Chapter Two both will be released on digital platforms on Feb. 20.
