Scotland’s World Cup hosts have doubled down on their threat to pull the plug on matches in Foxborough.
And they’ve warned if they don’t receive over £5.5 million from FIFA by next month, there will be no World Cup matches in their town’s Gillette Stadium.
Scotland face Haiti and Morocco in the Massachusetts town within a week in June and tens of thousands of Tartan Army fans have booked travel and accommodation for the two games in the area.
But Foxborough chiefs insist they won’t grant a licence to play any games there unless world football’s governing body stump up additional funding for security aspects of the seven games due to be played at the stadium.
And Foxborough town manager Paige Duncan has now insisted they won’t grant the licence unless they receive assurances from FIFA in a meeting next month about the funding.
She said: “If nobody gives money, there’s no World Cup in Foxborough.

“Without a satisfactory resolution of this issue, Foxborough will not be able to act favourably on FIFA’s application and finalise licensing and the seven matches proposed to take place in Foxborough would therefore be at risk
“While grant funding or reimbursement through third parties may ultimately be available, we cannot rely on speculative or downstream funding when making staffing and deployment decisions “It just doesn’t work that way. Foxborough is a small town where residents vote on budget matters at town meetings.
“My ultimate goal is for this to work out so that Foxborough can host the World Cup as planned. We are committed to collaboration, careful planning and public safety, but the significant costs associated with hosting the World Cup cannot fall on local taxpayers.”
