CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Top-seeded University of North Carolina women’s tennis fell to fifth-seeded Ohio State in the quarterfinals at the ITA Team National Indoor Championship Saturday in Champaign, Ill. Saturday’s loss marks the first for Carolina this season.
The Tar Heels got off to a strong start taking the doubles point. No. 5 Oby Kajuru/Susanna Maltby downed their opponents, 6-2, to give UNC their first doubles win of the day. No. 6 Reese Brantmeier/Alanis Hamilton clinched the doubles point after topping the Buckeyes, 6-2.
No. 21 Tatum Evans recorded the lone singles win for UNC. The junior topped no. 52 Nao Nishino in straight sets.
Ohio State went on to claim four wins in singles action to take the match, 4-2.
