The Multiverse Saga is nearing its end, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already busy developing the X-Men reboot for after Phase 6. The MCU timeline is getting closer to finally putting the spotlight on the famous mutants, with a solo film currently in the works at Marvel Studios.
In a new interview with Comic Book Movie, Laura Kinney/X-23 star Dafne Keen was asked about her thoughts on fans who want to see her take over the role of Wolverine down the line, as the X-Men film gets closer to happening. The actress shared, “Yeah, I mean, it means so much to me. I always think it’s so special that something that we made 10 years ago still has an impact.”
Keen continued, “And I know that I love that character so dearly. And it means so much to me that so many people love her as much as I do. And it’s so special to know that what you’ve made means something.” She first brought the role to life in James Mangold’s Logan as one of her major breakout roles in Hollywood.
Following her return in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Keen elaborated on why she reprised her role: “I think that what we made really did mean something. And it’s great to keep receiving that. I also think it’s very important to connect with people.” The Acolyte alum feels that “Every time I hear that a performance of mine has made someone feel a type of way, I feel very connected. And I think it’s so beautiful. So many people are excited by it. And I’m very happy anytime anyone wants to speak about it.”
Marvel Studios has tapped Jake Schreier to helm X-Men, following his work on Thunderbolts*. A script has been written by Michael Lesslie for the mutants reboot, but story details are still being kept heavily under wraps.
The X-Men movie will also mark the beginning of a new era for the MCU, as the mutants will play a crucial role in the franchise going forward. In the meantime, audience members will get to see several stars reprising their X-Men characters from the Fox-Marvel era in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios has yet to set a release date for the X-Men reboot.
