Liverpool’s poor run of results in the Premier League continued with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Unfortunately, the 4-1 win over Newcastle United last week appears to have been nothing more than a flash in the pan.

After losing to Man City, Liverpool have now won just one of their last seven Premier League ties.

Jamie Carragher has shared a damning Arne Slot verdict, while the Reds’ Champions League hopes are fading.

Liverpool actually led the match until the 84th minute, when Bernardo Silva equalised.

Erling Haaland then scored a penalty in injury time before Dominik Szoboszlai was sent off.

Milos Kerkez says Alisson can be blamed after Manchester City

Fans praised Milos Kerkez during Sunday’s encounter, suggesting he was having a good game.

But the Hungarian has now given a negative verdict on Liverpool’s backline after they conceded twice late on.

In an interview with Viaplay Football, he said there was a lack of communication for City’s first of the day.

He then suggested that Alisson, who gave away the spot-kick that allowed Haaland to win the match, could be blamed.

Kerkez said: “The first goal was defensively not really talking, no communication, and you can put the goal on Ali [Alisson] from the penalty.

“It is what it is. It happens. Disappointed.”

Had Alisson not given away the penalty, Liverpool may well have come away with a point, or even a win.

How many points are we getting from the next five? 😑

But as Virgil van Dijk said to Sky Sports News post-match, the mistake from the Liverpool goalkeeper was a big turning point.

He stated: “We have only ourselves to blame. The penalty moment was the deciding moment, and that is the reality.

“We have to turn attention to Sunderland because that will be a big challenge.”

The Dutchman also commented on Liverpool’s performance: “We weren’t good enough in the first half, in the second half we were much better.”

Next up is a meeting with Sunderland on Wednesday, and another defeat could see Liverpool move eight points behind Manchester United in the battle for fourth.
