Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

A fresh name has been added to Manchester United’s midfield shortlist ahead of the summer, Sandro Tonali.

Former AC Milan star Tonali has been one of Newcastle’s best players this season, playing in all 25 Premier League games for the club.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are showing interest in Tonali, who is concerned about his future with Newcastle unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

What are your thoughts on Manchester United’s supposed interest in Sandro Tonali?

Where should he rank in comparison to other central midfield targets?

Sandro Tonali is said to be ‘high’ on Manchester United’s shortlist, but he would not come at all cheap.

Newcastle would demand £100 million for the Italy international, a fee that seems excessive for a player who has a contract that expires in 2028.

Tonali cost Newcastle £60 million when he joined in 2023 and they would not be keen to take a loss on the midfielder.

It is more likely that his eventual fee could be in the £60-70 million range, with Manchester United unwilling to overpay for targets.

United will have several midfield options available, but Premier League proven players will not come at all cheap.

Manchester United’s top transfer target is widely reported to be Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Anderson, 23, has also been touted in the £100 million range, a fee that could drop drastically if Forest suffer relegation.

Newcastle would love to re-sign Anderson after selling him in 2024 to comply with PSR issues.

Their only chance to re-sign Anderson likely depends on player sales, and Manchester United have to be a little careful here with Tonali interest.

One possibility is that Manchester United pay up early for Tonali, which finances Newcastle’s move for Anderson after the World Cup.

Newcastle have a pull for Anderson even without Champions League football as they are his boyhood club.

So this is just something for Ineos to be aware of when it comes to Tonali, ensuring they don’t end up missing on their top choice in the process.

There is also competition from City for Anderson, so it is possible that United miss out and need to look at Tonali as an alternative.

United are still likely to need more than one midfielder with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte needing upgrading, so don’t rule out the possibility of a double move for Anderson and Tonali.
