HOUSTON, Texas – A teenager was killed early Monday morning after a shooting at a car meet in the Greenspoint area, according to Houston police.
Officers were called to the parking lot of the former Greenspoint Mall around 1 a.m. where they found a teenage victim who had been shot.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say a large crowd had gathered for a car meet when the shooting happened, but everyone scattered before officers arrived, making it hard for detectives to identify suspects or witnesses.
Police say it’s still unclear what led up to the shooting.
Several vehicles were left behind in the parking lot, though investigators have not determined whether those cars were involved.
Authorities say these types of car meets are common in the area, especially on Sunday nights into early Monday mornings.
Officers have responded to similar gatherings in the past where large crowds meet to do donuts and, in some cases, fire guns into the air. Police say arrests have been made at this location before.
As of Monday morning, investigators say no additional victims have shown up at area hospitals.
Anyone with information about the shooting or who attended the car meet is urged to contact Houston police or Crime Stoppers.
