WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — President Donald Trump spent his Saturday at his West Palm Beach golf course, appearing to distance himself from the growing firestorm over his controversial social media post.

The president was spotted at Trump International Golf Course alongside Republican Senators Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Despite the mounting criticism back in Washington, the atmosphere on the course appeared relaxed.

Graham took to social media, sharing a photo of the trio and calling the President “Reagan Plus”:

The backlash stems from a now-deleted video posted to the President’s social media account on Thursday night, which depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.

The imagery has drawn swift and severe condemnation, most notably from Graham’s fellow South Carolinian, Senator Tim Scott.

Scott, the lone Black Republican in the U.S. Senate, called the post “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.”

As of Sunday, President Trump has offered no formal apology for the video. Instead, the administration has pivoted the blame toward an unnamed staffer.
