It’s rare for a team to have to worry about being caught in a look-ahead spot in the Olympics. But it’s understandable if Team USA has to fight that urge today.
Canada and the U.S. have historically dominated this competition, as we covered earlier, accounting for 15 of the 16 gold and silver medals handed out in Olympic women’s ice hockey history. And the two national teams remain bitter rivals on the ice even as many American and Canadian stars now play side-by-side in the PWHL.
Thanks to the new Olympic format outlined by Dom Luszczyszyn here earlier, we’ll get a group-stage matchup between the U.S. and Canada — and that game is next up after today, slated for tomorrow. Canada plays today against the Czech Republic at 3:10 p.m. ET, and we have that one covered live here on The Athletic as well.
