LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Five people are dead following a shooting in the Seth Ward neighborhood early Saturday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Hale County Sheriff’s Office called the Texas Rangers to assist with the death investigation at approximately 3:40 a.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Upchurch. The shooting resulted from what officials described as a “shooting event.”
DPS says four adults were pronounced dead at the scene.
They have been identified as Hector Alonso Sanchez, 28; Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 30; Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, 47; and Saul Villa, 33, who was identified as the assailant, according to DPS.
A fifth victim, Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, 21, died at Covenant Hospital-Plainview.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
Officials say there is no threat to the public.
Plainview ISD published a statement saying they are aware of a “tragic incident” in the community, saying they are also waiting for confirmed information from law enforcement.
The district said its hearts are with the family and those affected and asked others to extend compassion, respect, prayers and patience.
