First round action at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires continues with seven matches on Tuesday. Daniel Altmaier is chasing his first win of the season when he faces home favorite Juan Manuel Cerundolo. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article, featuring Facundo Diaz Acosta vs Alejandro Tabilo. Who will advance?
ATP Buenos Aires Day 2 Predictions
Daniel Altmaier vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo
Head-to-head: Altmaier 3-1 Cerundolo
Altmaier comfortably leads the head-to-head against Juan Manuel Cerundolo and defeated the young Argentine in straight sets at the Turin Challenger last season. The German has not recorded a single win this season and quite shockingly, has lost at least single 6-0 set in every defeat. Cerundolo has looked far more competitive with four wins and is coming off a semifinal run at the Rosario Challenger.
Prediction: Cerundolo in 3
Camilo Ugo Carabelli vs Francisco Comesana
Head-to-head: Ugo Carabelli 1-0 Comesana
Ugo Carabelli is coming off a successful title defense at the Rosario Challenger just a couple of days ago and the question is how quick he will recover for this match. Last year, when he won the title in Rosario, he lost his opening match in buenos Aires, suggesting it’s not quite an easy transition. And this is tough opener for him against an improving Comesana who is tough to beat on any surface. Comesana will grind for points and make Carabelli work relentlessly. And that can only benefit the fresher player here.
Prediction: Comesana in 2
Matteo Berrettini vs Federico Coria
Head-to-head: Berrettini 3-0 Coria
Injury woes struck again as Berrettini had to pull out of this year’s Australian Open. He’s faced a lot of troubling inuries that have derailed his surge into the upper echelons of the sport. That said, when Berrettini is healthy, he is one of the best ball strikers on tour. Coria is marking his own return from injury. He hasn’t played since last August. Berrettini has proven credentials on this surface and I don’t see him struggling to impose his game if fit.
Prediction: Berrettini in 2
