Collin Delia just saw his Brynas IF contract terminated, and the former Chicago Blackhawks goalie is suddenly back on the market.
Brynas IF announced the breakup today, saying both sides mutually agreed to end the deal.
Delia, 31, arrived from the Edmonton Oilers organization on a one-year contract meant to run through the 2025/26 season.
Instead, it ends early, and that tells you plenty about how the season went for him in Sweden.
He started only six SHL games and seven CHL games, never really grabbing the crease for long.
Sports director Johan Alcén pointed straight at the lack of playing time while still praising Delia’s professionalism and loyalty.
“Collin has had little playing time for a long period and has expressed a desire to move on. Despite limited playing time, he has always behaved professionally and shown a high degree of loyalty to both the club and his teammates. We wish him the best of luck.
– Johan Alcén.”
It’s hard to argue when a goalie sits for weeks, because rhythm is everything between the pipes.
Delia is also an undrafted late bloomer who fought his way to 52 NHL games, mostly with Chicago, and later Vancouver.
His NHL line sits at 19-18-7 with a 3.51 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage, numbers that scream “depth option,” not savior.
In Brynas, the fit just never stabilized, and that can snowball fast for a goalie on a short deal.
Collin Delia leaves Brynas IF with questions
From Brynas’ side, this opens a clean roster spot and removes the awkward three-goalie rotation that leaves someone cold.
From Delia’s side, the timing matters because clubs hunting injury insurance will call now, not in April.
The next move could be another European stop, an AHL contract, or an NHL camp invite if a team wants a veteran to push prospects.
Either way, the story isn’t drama; it’s simple math: no starts means no future.
