Benjamin Sesko is showing signs of improvement at Manchester United, but former Red Devils striker Dimitar Berbatov is still not convinced.

Michael Carrick is yet to start Benjamin Sesko, but his chance could come when Manchester United face West Ham in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.

Interestingly, Sesko has scored more goals since Ruben Amorim was sacked than he managed under the Portuguese. With four goals in his last five games in all competitions, the Slovenian is starting to show his true potential since his £66m move from RB Leipzig.

How do you predict Benjamin Sesko’s career at Manchester United will go?

The 22-year-old continues to be criticised, though. Gary Neville has not been impressed by Sesko, despite him being a drastic improvement from Rasmus Hojlund last season.

Now, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes he has spotted a unique problem in Sesko’s game.

Berbatov epitomised calm and composure on a football pitch. While his off-the-ball work was described as lazy, in possession, he almost always made the right decision.

When watching Sesko in action this season, Berbatov believes he is watching a striker void of confidence.

Speaking on the ESPN FC podcast, Berbatov said: “Again, it’s down to communication. In the case of Sesko, I think there is work to be done to build the confidence of him.

“Because we all saw the goal he scored (vs Fulham) was a beautiful goal, but in the last game (vs Tottenham) he had a good opportunity to score again, but he missed a couple of chances. It means that his confidence is a bit short at the moment.

What impact will this winning goal have for Benjamin Sesko’s Man Utd career?

What a moment!

“It was a great finish. A great, great finish. But in the last game, he had a great chance to score in the last minute of the game. So there is work to be done, and I hope that the team and the staff, the players, everybody is working with him so he can score more goals.”

Benjamin Sesko will only get better at Man United

Ineos knew when signing Sesko that, while he was ready to compete at a top level, his ceiling is what makes him a truly exciting talent.

At just 22 years old, Sesko’s pace, physicality and height makes him perfect for the Premier League.

Adapting to a new environment and a new league has proven difficult, but Sesko is starting to show why he is an elite striker at United.

Sesko has an elite work ethic, and Amorim, Darren Fletcher and Carrick have all complimented his attitude behind the scenes.

He is very much a work in progress, but supporters should get behind Sesko because when he does build up his confidence, he can be a world-class centre-forward.
