RHO, Italy – In what could be a sign for things to come for Kewaskum-native speedskater Jordan Stolz at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, the 21-year-old made his mark in his first event claiming gold in the 1,000 meter race and setting an Olympic-record in the process.

Stolz took the medal with a 1:06.28 time, more than a second ahead of the prior Olympic record. It was the largest margin of victory in the Olympic event since 1984.

He had to wait a bit longer than expected to officially claim the title due to a re-skate for Joep Wennemars of the Netherlands. Fellow Dutch skater Jenning de Boo took the silver and Zhongyang Ning of China earned the bronze.

He has three more races to run in these Olympics: the 500 meter race February 14, the 1,500 meter February 19, and the mass start competition February 21.
