There are plenty of men’s and women’s basketball players who strive to impact games the way that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark does.
With that said, there are also players in the WNBA and NBA whom Clark watches, searching for ways to make her game better.
One NBA player Caitlin Clark models her game after is Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic. Clark loves the way Doncic controls the game, whether he is scoring or setting up teammates.
“I mean, Luka’s amazing. And he’s incredible, I think, the way he can not only score the ball but also the way he passes,” Clark said. “And I think the thing about him is like, he’s not the fastest; he’s not the most athletic.
“But he can get his defender to move where he wants him to go, and he takes up that space. And he does a really good job of either keeping the defender behind him or keeping him to the side. So I think that’s something I can certainly learn from.”
Doncic, an MVP candidate, is averaging 32.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game on the season.
Clark can certainly fill up a stat sheet, too. But she’s also looking to improve as she enters her third season in the WNBA.
“I always kind of want to run away from the defense, rather than absorbing the contact and taking up the space that they give me,” she said. “So I think obviously he’s pretty incredible. He averages like a 30-point triple double. So he makes it look pretty easy, but I can promise you it’s not that easy.”
