Rochester, N.Y. — A Rochester General Hospital nurse was placed on administrative leave and removed from her union post due to her social media activity.
In a statement, Rochester Regional Health said it’s aware of recent social media posts attributed to an employee that contain racist and discriminatory content.

We want to be clear: language or behavior that is racist, hateful, or discriminatory has no place in our organization or in healthcare.These posts do not reflect the values of Rochester Regional Health or the standards to which we hold our team members. Our mission is rooted in providing compassionate, respectful care to every patient, and in fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for our team members and the communities we serve.We take these matters very seriously. While we cannot comment on specific personnel matters, per Rochester Regional Health policy and procedure, the team member is on administrative leave while we review the situation.

The Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals, which represents nurses at Rochester General Hospital, released a statement saying the nurse was removed from her senior position.
RUNAP affirms our opposition to all forms of racism and discrimination. We condemn the use of dehumanizing imagery in the depiction of Black people, regardless of political or other context. Our members and our patients are drawn from the full spectrum of the Rochester community, and our union must reflect that. Economic justice is inseparable from racial justice.
