PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Northwest Florida Water Management District is asking people to conserve water due to the recent drought conditions.
The district’s governing board issued a water shortage warning on Thursday.
“While water supplies are currently meeting demand, the Warning is intended to encourage conservation, help reduce drought impacts, and protect water resources,” a release states.
The National Oceanic Atmosphere Agency’s data shows Northwest Florida has received below average rainfall.
The agency also expects drought-like conditions to persist through April.
The warning impacts 16 counties including Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.
However, ECUA sent over the following statement to WEAR News following the announcement.
Based on the latest information from our team, our section of Florida is not experiencing the drought conditions impacting other parts of the state at this time. We are not seeing any effects from dry weather within our system. Additionally, this time of year typically brings the lowest water demand… That said, potable water is always a valuable resource that should be managed wisely and not wasted, so a public service announcement reminding people to be efficient with their water use is a good idea.
