They’re teammates in Dallas but rivals for one night only. A scorer’s duel with no safety net. Get the popcorn ready.

DALLAS — Unrivaled’s 1-on-1 tournament delivered exactly what it promised in the opening round: star power, quick-hit drama and a playground edge that left no room to hide.

By Wednesday night, 22 players had battled it out in a single-elimination showdown, trimming the field and setting the stage for Friday’s next round and quarterfinals, with a $300,000 prize on the line.

Among the most anticipated matchups now set is a showdown that feels both familiar and fascinatingly new: Dallas Wings teammates Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale squaring off one-on-one.

Bueckers, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, and Ogunbowale, seeded fourth, each advanced with first-round wins that underscored why this matchup has fans buzzing.

For Ogunbowale, the 1-on-1 format is tailor-made. When she gets rolling, she’s among the most unguardable scorers in basketball, and in Unrivaled’s setting, defenders don’t get the luxury of help. Against Brittany Sykes, Ogunbowale wasted no time, rattling off nine unanswered points before Sykes could respond with a layup. It didn’t slow her down. Ogunbowale went right back to work in the paint, closing the contest in under two minutes with ruthless efficiency.

Bueckers was just as dominant.

The No. 1 seed never looked threatened, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and controlling the pace throughout. After Kate Martin, who also plays for Team Breeze, briefly made things interesting with five straight points, Bueckers slammed the door, finishing the game with back-to-back layups to seal her place in the next round.

Now, the stage is set for a must-watch clash. They’re teammates in Dallas but rivals for one night only. A scorer’s duel with no safety net. Get the popcorn ready.

Elsewhere in the bracket, the first round delivered plenty of chaos. Sonia Citron pulled off the tournament’s first upset by knocking out Marina Mabrey.

However, the most shocking result of the night came in a blink. Mist guard Veronica Burton stunned Breeze guard Courtney Williams with an 11-0 shutout, advancing in just 1 minute and 23 seconds. In the make-it-take-it format, Williams never touched the ball.

A visibly stunned Williams summed it up best afterward on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Wow Chat. Not even getting the ball is crazyyyy.”

With the bracket set and momentum building, all eyes now turn to Friday, and to a Dallas-on-Dallas duel that could define the tournament.
