Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh formally reprimanded for PragerU incident
The Omaha senator seen on camera removing pictures from a display inside the state capitol has been formally reprimanded.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh was seen on surveillance footage removing parts of a temporary historical exhibit from the walls.
The Legislature’s Executive Board reprimanded Cavanaugh, calling her conduct “unprofessional” and “unbecoming.” It also said her actions “fall short of the professionalism” that’s expected of a senator.
The displays created by PragerU have faced intense criticism by some historians and scholars who say they are inaccurate or misleading.
Governor Jim Pillen has called for a criminal investigation into the matter. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains open and active.

On Friday, Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. is set to officially announce the creation of a youth advisory council.
The program will be open to students who will be a high school junior or senior in the upcoming school year. The announcement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday.

“They will get to hear from me about the environment we’re trying to create for their safety and their success, but they will also be able to give me advice on what we need to do,” Ewing said last month.
