For a reality show that had multiple challenges that included race-swapping, dying of an overdose, being homeless, and hypothermia, hearing America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks say, “You have no idea what we have planned for cycle 25” feels like an absolute threat. What do you mean we have no idea? Does this mean that the challenges will finally be normal and healthy? Something models actually include in their portfolio? Probably not, but in anticipation of the new docuseries coming to Netflix on February 16, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Banks is preparing to mentor the next generation of models.

While another season of Top Model has not been formally green-lit, it’s something that Banks has been thinking about for quite a while, since at least 2020. “That is the question that I get asked the most. After all, I created the thing and people are now like, ‘Where the hell is it?’ Right now, we are trying to figure out how to do it,” Banks told Haute Living in 2020, a sentiment she also shared in other interviews around the same time. The original run of America’s Next Top Model ran from 2003–2018 for 24 seasons. The upcoming docuseries could pique interest in a revival or be another reminder that maybe we don’t need to relive that era of the early aughts again.
