Benjamin Sesko is grateful to Diogo Dalot for helping him to settle at Manchester United. Dalot was included in the United leadership group in the summer and has helped Sesko to find his feet at the club.

In August, Sesko arrived at Old Trafford for a fee of €76.5million (£66.4m), and €8.5m (£7.3m) in add-ons. Over the past two seasons, the Slovenia international had scored the most goals of any player under the age of 23 in Europe’s top five leagues, but he made a slow start in Manchester.

Sesko had to wait until October to score his first goal, but he has notched five times in his last six appearances, including a late winner against Fulham and an injury-time equaliser against West Ham.

Sesko salvaged a point at the London Stadium to ensure Michael Carrick remained undefeated since his appointment as interim boss. “It kicked in afterwards, five minutes later. In the moment, it did not register, everything happens so quickly, but I’m really glad this moment happened,” he said about his goal.

“It’s a difficult finish. If I position my foot a little bit differently, the ball would go somewhere else, so it’s about the moment and getting everything right at the right time.”

Sesko sat down with United’s in-house media and revealed Dalot had been important in helping him to settle. “Diogo Dalot, like he really helped me from the start,” explained Sesko.

“He was really trying to help me in all the ways because it’s a different world here. I’m really grateful he helped me. We are still pushing every day and doing all the work together if possible.”

Sesko continued: “It’s been amazing, a new world for me. A lot of emotions, obviously, but it’s been nice and fun. I’ve really enjoyed it. If I take a day off, I like to wake up at 7am because it’s good to have a routine.

“I try to enjoy it as much as possible, have a coffee, and I’m a big, big guy in terms of doing visualisations, which are meditations. I’ve been doing this for a couple of years, it became my daily routine.

“Then I will go for some treatment and gym work if possible. Then I like to enjoy my day. I enjoy to play basketball. I like to be active and not stay in the one place for too long. I will try to read a book, get some knowledge out of it, and some sofa time, which is also really important.”

Speaking about his relationship with the fans, Sesko said: “The best way to introduce yourself is scoring goals. Without the fans, you cannot play football. When you have them by your side, it gives you another energy and a push.

“It was an amazing feeling to score my first goal at home. Everyone is screaming for you. It was unbelievable. I’ve said in many interviews so far, the way we are playing together, the way we are, the guys off the pitch celebrating the goals, we are really doing everything to win the game.”

United were interested in signing Sesko in the summer of 2022 and his agent visited Carrington, but the forward decided to sign for RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg.

Sesko scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig before moving to United last summer.
