UPDATE: KTVZ News has learned from ODFW that the animal in the pictures provided to KTVZ is most likely a wolf.
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A Deschutes County resident shared pictures with KTVZ News of what appeared to be a wolf on the west bank of the Deschutes River near the Bill Healy Bridge on January 26.
Wildlife officials have not yet confirmed whether the animal was a wolf or a large coyote, which can sometimes be mistaken for wolves.
The reported sighting comes shortly after another wolf sighting in Central Oregon near Sunriver, raising renewed interest in wolf activity in the region.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has previously confirmed wolf presence in parts of Central Oregon and encourages residents to report sightings with as much detail as possible, including photos or tracks, to assist in verification.
Anyone who believes they have seen a wolf is urged to contact ODFW or their local law enforcement agency.
