Muppet News Flash: Pig and frog bring home the bacon! Disney has released the ratings for the one-time revival of The Muppet Show, and the numbers are good enough to give fans hope that the one-off special may indeed be a backdoor pilot for further shenanigans. The eight-day count of total viewers across ABC and Disney+ was 7.58 million. That’s around what ratings darling Dancing With the Stars was pulling every week last season. The initial airing on ABC drew 3.1 million viewers, equivalent to the series premiere of Dexter: Resurrection.

Disney also shared that general Muppet viewership is up across Disney+. In the same eight-day window, audiences spent 125 million hours overall on Muppet properties. That’s a lot of Great Muppet Caper rewatches. Imagine how huge those numbers would be if Disney+ acquired 1982’s The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show or even just the Prince episode of Muppets Tonight. Also drop the chicken version of “Manchild” on Spotify. That’s going to do boffo business.

Kermit delivered a wiggly-armed statement of gratitude on social media after the news broke. “Thank you to all the fans who have watched The Muppet Show,” he said, before throwing shade at the idea of a Miss Piggy spinoff. Watch it, frog. She’s a star, damn it, a star!
