Homer musician takes “America’s Got Talent” stage

  • July 30, 2025

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Guitar has been a passion for Silas Luke Jones since he was 10 years old.

“It was kind of a choice of like, what do I want to invest my time in? At the time I was taking karate lessons,” said Jones. “My parents were like, ‘what about music?’ and kind of brought it up and they got me a guitar for Christmas.”

Nine years later, the practice paid off. Jones received four yes votes, pushing him to the next round of competition on one of the nation’s biggest stages.

While he has written a few songs, Silas’ main focus is percussive finger style, a form of guitar that emphasizes unique sounds and elements.

“I feel like the style of playing is not super popular and I love doing it,” he said.

Jones said he decided to audition for “America’s Got Talent,” to show off his unique form of playing.

“I want to travel and show people what the guitar can do and what anyone can do when they put their mind to something,” he said.

Jones’ father Billy says his son signed up for the show without telling his parents.

“It was exciting to see him stepping out, taking initiative and stepping up to challenge himself in that way,” said Billy. “It was a proud parent moment.”

Jones says one of his favorite parts of filming so far was visiting the AGT stage in California.

“Getting on the stage, the stage that you watch on TV all the time and you see all these other acts and you’re like ‘I’m here now’, it’s been surreal,” Jones said.

Jones’ parents said they were allowed to watch their son audition for the show.

“Most likely you’ll see us in the audience reacting to his performance on stage,” said Billy.

“Cheering him on, of course, like we always do at every event,” his mother Stephanie said.

While viewers have to wait to see how far Jones advances on the AGT stage, he posts original music and covers of songs on his YouTube.

“I’ve done a lot of stuff in Alaska. I’d love to do it around the world and also meet other musicians,” said Jones.
