Suspect arrested following shooting in Hammond subdivison

NEWS AT FOUR. WE START WITH THIS BREAKING NEWS RIGHT NOW. A MAN IS DEAD. FOUR OTHERS ARE SHOT IN HAMMOND, INCLUDING A YOUNG CHILD. THOSE GUNSHOTS RINGING OUT JUST HOURS AGO AT THE WILLOW VILLA COMMUNITY, RIGHT OFF OF OLD BATON ROUGE HIGHWAY. AND WE DO KNOW THAT ONE PERSON IS NOW IN CUSTODY. SO, AS YOU CAN SEE, A VERY ACTIVE SCENE HERE, THIS CRIME SCENE TAPE HERE ON VILLA ROAD STILL BLOCKING OFF THIS STRETCH OF ROAD WHERE THE CHAOS HAPPENED JUST BEFORE NOON TODAY. NOW WE’RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND ZOOM IN SO YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THAT AFTERMATH. CHIEF GERALD STICKER TELLS ME TODAY IN A PRESS CONFERENCE THAT THIS ALL STARTED FROM AN ARGUMENT BETWEEN PEOPLE. AND THEN THAT’S WHEN THOSE SHOTS RANG OUT. YOU CAN SEE THE SANDALS. THEY’RE LEFT ON THE GROUND AND SOME OTHER SHOES THERE. AND YES, SADLY, LIKE YOU ALL SAID, A THREE YEAR OLD WAS CAUGHT IN THIS CROSSFIRE. WE ARE NOT SURE IF THAT CHILD IS A YOUNG GIRL OR A BOY, AND WE DO NOT KNOW HOW SERIOUS THAT CHILD’S INJURIES ARE AT THIS TIME. WE KNOW THAT A 26 YEAR OLD IS DEAD AND WAS ONE OF THE SHOOTERS. THE SECOND SHOOTER, ALSO SHOT IS IN THE HOSPITAL BUT IS IN CUSTODY. WE ARE NOT AWARE OF THE AGES OF THE OTHER TWO VICTIMS. WE DO KNOW THAT THE FOUR PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL HAVE INJURIES RANGING FROM STABLE TO CRITICAL CONDITION. THE REASON WHY IS NO EXCUSE FOR ANY DISAGREEMENT TO TURN INTO GUN VIOLENCE. AND THIS IS NO WAY FOR ANY ARGUMENT TO END. AND WE PREACH THIS EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS. AND, YOU KNOW, WE’RE GOING TO DO OUR LEVEL BEST TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE THE WHYS AND THE WHOS SO THAT WE CAN PROVIDE ANSWERS TO YOU, TO THE, TO THE PUBLIC AND, YOU KNOW, TO THESE VICTIMS FAMILIES THAT HAVE TO THAT HAVE TO ENDURE THIS.
