The Bella Twins called out WNBA stars Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham for a Wrestlemania tag team match

While most WNBA stars are either spending their offseason playing in the Unrivaled league, continuing recovery routines, or perfecting their craft overseas, Sophie Cunningham and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark might want to start practicing their ring entrances.

The WWE Hall of Fame Bella Twins have officially issued a challenge to two key players who have played a role in the Indiana Fever’s successful turnaround over the past two WNBA seasons. The twin sisters called out the hoop stars when asked, which basketball stars they’d most like to see step into the ring.

Clark’s name came up first, and Nikki didn’t hesitate to say that the booking would be “awesome.” But it was Cunningham’s name who really sparked the interest in making an inconceivable online callout happen in real life.

While the Bella’s callout was intentional, a New England Patriots star didn’t expect to be caught on a hot mic after the Super Bowl loss, insisting “it wasn’t us.”

Brie immediately brightened at the suggestion, calling Cunningham “such a great heel,” and Nikki disclosed that Cunningham had previously called out the girls in an earlier interview, leading the WWE Hall of Famer to send her a DM.

“I was like, oh, okay, you want to take the Bella Twins on in the ring? Let’s do it,” Nikki said. “Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark versus The Bellas. Book it! WrestleMania!”

When told that Cunningham quietly measures 6-foot-1, Nikki dismissed it with the confident attitude that characterized her 301-day reign as Divas Champion. “That’s okay,” she said. “When you’re the bad girls, we know how to win. No matter how tall, how strong, we know.”

Brie Bella and Nikki Bella are WWE Hall of Famers

The Bella Twins reunited in WWE in January, with Nikki returning at the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble at No. 30 before joining Raw, and Brie returning at No. 29 in Riyadh.

Two nights later, on Raw, they reunited and declared their intent to chase the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships one final time. They’ve captured the Women’s Tag Team Championships twice as a team and have both had runs as singles champions.

Cunningham is a lifelong WWE fan who grew up watching Kane, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena. She shared in December 2025 on her podcast that WWE had contacted her about a crossover. She mentioned she would consider wrestling after finishing her WNBA career, while at San Diego Comic-Con.

Clark’s connection is more cultural after she famously found herself on the receiving end of Angel Reese’s “You Can’t See Me” John Cena taunt after LSU defeated Iowa 102-85 in the 2023 national championship game in Dallas.

Clark later used that same gesture when appearing in a promotional segment during WrestleMania 41. WWE has increasingly mined elite women’s basketball talent in recent years.

Recent main roster callup and SmackDown brand star Lash Legend transitioned from a WNBA draft pick to a WWE standout. The Cavinder Twins signed NIL deals while at Miami before fully committing to wrestling. WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill brought a Division I basketball pedigree into her dominant WWE run.
