While we still drool over Naoto Fukusawa’s Za Stool for Emeco, designed a few years ago…

…it’s worth remembering he has another aluminum stool on the market, with a very different design approach. The Za, shown above, is welded together. But Fukusawa took a very different approach for his Déjà-vu Stool, designed for Magis about two decades ago.

The Déjà-vu was designed to be flatpacked, and user-assembled. This saves a bundle on shipping costs over the Za, which ships as one large piece.

Here’s how the Déjà-vu comes together:

Both are sturdy, attractive and were created by a pedigreed designer. But if we look at the bar-height, polished variants, the Za rings in at $1,305; the Déjà-vu, $700.
