WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump took to social media to call Bill Maher a “jerk” and said a dinner he shared with the talk show host at the White House was “a total waste of time.”

The president made the comments on Saturday, saying Maher was “extremely nervous” throughout the meal, which reportedly happened in 2025.

“He came into the famed Oval Office much different than I thought he would be,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence in himself and, to soothe his nerves, immediately, within seconds, asked for a ‘Vodka Tonic.’ He said to me, ‘I’ve never felt like this before, I’m actually scared.’ In one respect, it was somewhat endearing!”

Trump said Maher, who is the host of HBO’s “Real Time,” was “very respectful” during Maher’s first show after their gathering.

But, said Trump, he noticed that the show has started to promote an “anti-Trump” agenda, saying Maher has failed to acknowledge what Trump views as the administration’s biggest accomplishments so far during his second term, including border security, crime reduction, economic gains, military actions, and foreign policy achievements.

“Very boring, ANTI TRUMP, no mention of the PERFECT Border, Lowest Crime in 125 years, the Mass Removal of Stone Cold Criminals, the 50,000 DOW, the 7,000 S&P (Both Highest Ever!), Least Number of Murders since 1900, Venezuela, ‘Midnight Hammer,’ Soleimani DEAD, al-Baghdadi DEAD, Lowest Inflation in YEARS (1.2% for last three months!), the Rebuilding of our Military, Eight War Stoppages, and on, and on, and on!” Trump wrote.

The comments come after Maher recently defended his decision to meet with Trump and pushed back on critics who said the dinner softened his criticism of Trump.

During an interview with Elex Michaelson, which aired on CNN international and was shared on Facebook, Maher described people who stopped watching his show after the dinner are “idiots.”

Maher argued the real issue isn’t that he had dinner with Trump, but what he said afterward — specifically, that he has continued to criticize Trump on his show rather than be influenced by the president.

“They’re always asking the wrong question, which is, like, ‘How dare you have dinner with Donald Trump?'” Maher said. “The question should always have been, ‘What did I say after I had dinner with Donald Trump?'”

Maher added that if he had been “seduced by that dinner and stopped tearing him a new one every week every time I thought he did something wrong, then you would have a case. That didn’t happen.”

In Trump’s post, he said “it was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House.” He added that while Maher is no different from other TV hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert, he is “slightly more talented.”

Trump also called Maher “a highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT” and mocked his ratings, noting that his ratings are so low that no one will know about his “various fake news statements” about him.

“Bill continues to suffer from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS!), and there is nothing that will ever be done to cure him of this very serious disease,” Trump wrote.”Regardless, I’d much rather spend my time MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN than wasting it on him,” the president added.
