The mixed team event, making its Olympic debut at these Games, is over and we’ve got another gold medal for Matt Weston and Britain (pause for gloating from Athletic UK writer Matt Slater).

That was one hell of an impressive final run from Weston, whose partner Tabitha Stoecker didn’t have a great run. It’s nice when you can rely on a gold medalist!

Germany wins silver (Axel Jungk and Susanne Kreher) and bronze (Christopher Grotheer and Jacqueline Pfeifer).

The Americans finish seventh (Mystique Ro and Austin Florian) and 10th (Kelly Curtis and Dan Barefoot). Again, this is definitely disappointing for Ro and Florian (pictured), but as Olympic newcomers, they will be better prepared for the 2030 Games — providing both keep up the sport and make Team USA again, of course.

All that being said, Austrian Janine Flock’s early start, which resulted in a penalty and knocked the Austrians out of medal contention, is a good reminder that anything can happen in this sport. And it should give Ro and Florian confidence that they can come back to the Olympics and compete for hardware.
