After nearly three decades, Brother Cane is releasing a new album. The announcement was made on Jan. 20, and a new song is now available for streaming.
Brother Cane’s new record, Magnolia Medicine, is slated for release on April 17 and will be 11 tracks long, marking it the band’s first full-length album since Wishpool in 1998. Ahead of the record release, the band released the lead single, “Nothing To Lose,” on Friday. Accompanying the track is a music video posted to the band’s YouTube channel.
Released via Double Dragon Records and distributed by Virgin Music Group, Magnolia Medicine will rekindle the creative flame between frontman Damon Johnson and songwriter Marti Frederiksen. Frederiksen, who has worked for other iconic artists like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow, produced Brother Cane’s self-titled 1993 debut. Written and recorded in Nashville, the new album will feature original bassist Glenn Maxey, guitarist Tony Higbee, keyboardist Buck Johnson and drummer Jarred Pope.

Brother Cane was formed in 1990 by members Johnson and Maxey. Between 1993 and 1998, the band released three studio albums, with their debut launching them into immediate success. Known for hits like “Got No Shame,” “And Fools Shine On” and “I Lie in the Bed I Make,” the band established a recognizable, soulful, rootsy sound that helped define the Southern rock genre in the late ’90s.
Throughout their career, the band has had major chart success with three No. 1 rock radio hits and five top-10 singles. Their debut album additionally peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Aside from chart success, the band has supported major rock figures on U.S. tours, including Aerosmith, Robert Plant, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Van Halen.
