MADISON, (WKOW) — Public Health Madison & Dane County is investigating a new measles exposure in Dane County.

This case is not linked to the recent measles case confirmed last week.

A traveler from out of state who stayed at a Madison hotel tested positive for measles. The potential exposure location identified is the Holiday Inn Express at 5150 High Crossing Boulevard. The exposure occurred on Friday, February 6, between 12:01 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Public Health is contacting known individuals but does not have a full list of possible exposures.

Those who believe they were exposed should be aware of the following information. Measles symptoms appear 7 to 21 days after exposure. If exposed on February 6, symptoms may develop between February 13 and February 27.

Vaccinated individuals are extremely unlikely to contract measles but should still monitor for symptoms. Unprotected individuals exposed to the virus should quarantine from February 13 through February 27.

Unprotected refers to anyone born in 1957 or later who is unvaccinated or lacks laboratory evidence of having had measles. Those who develop symptoms should stay home and avoid others. Do not go to work, school, shopping, or use public transportation.

Contact your doctor’s office or clinic before visiting. Public Health Madison & Dane County urges vigilance and cooperation to prevent further spread.
