NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — After hanging out with a who’s who of Music City at Losers for years, golf superstar John Daly celebrated the opening day of sought-after sequel “Happy Gilmore 2” by hosting a movie premier party at his new bar, “John Daly’s Nashville.”

“It’s a friendly competition,” with the other bar owners in Midtown Nashville, Daly tells FOX17 News’ Johnny Maffei in an exclusive sit-down during his official grand opening.

Maffei: “What are you best known for these days?”

Daly: “I’m not sure.”

Daly is proud to contribute to the up-and-comers on the live music scene, saying he “started coming (to Nashville) because when I was trying to make it on the (PGA) tour I was living in a van. I didn’t have the money to travel, so I was basically living in a van. You basically watch all these people come here that are great singers. I’ve always said Nashville and these bars are the Korn Ferry Tour of the PGA Tour, they’re absolutely amazing, they just gotta get that one more step. I feel for ‘em, I bleed with ‘em.”

Partnering up with Daly is businessman Fred Barnett, who appreciates the gravity of opening a bar in Music City. “In the industry, we always felt like Nashville was the big game, that’s the Super Bowl, if you can get a bar in Nashville and you can make that work, you can do a bar anywhere at that point. And so we had a lot of success in Texas, and so we felt like if we got the right person, Nashville would work, and I have no complaints, I think everybody knows we got the right person here (in Daly),” Barnett tells Maffei.

John Daly’s Nashville is on Division St next to Losers. See the full conversation with Daly below:
