OPD: Man in critical condition after cutting in Omaha
The Omaha Police Department is investigating a cutting that left a man injured early Monday in Omaha.
According to an updated release, the incident happened at 75th Street and Redick Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday.
The victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to OPD.
Bergan Mercy hospital in Omaha locks out amid ‘suspicious’ call
Omaha’s Bergan Mercy hospital went into a lockout after a suspicious phone call Monday afternoon.
OPD told First Alert 6 a suspicious phone call indicated a threat against the hospital. In response, the facility went under a lockout procedure.
OPD says officers on the scene found nothing suspicious in the hospital.
CHI told First Alert 6 there was no threat to the public, and hospital operations returned to normal.
Burn bans issued in eastern Nebraska due to extreme fire danger
Fire departments in eastern Nebraska have issued burn bans due to the lack of moisture and predicted unseasonably high temperatures.
A burn ban declared in Douglas County last Friday remains in effect Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service in Hastings, Omaha/Valley and North Platte issued Red Flag Warnings for more than three dozen counties. The warnings and Fire Weather Watch are in effect Tuesday.
First Alert 6 is told low humidity, warmer temperatures, and wind on the way could lead to critical fire weather conditions. The public is urged to use extra caution to avoid starting fires and monitor recently burned areas during this time.
Tuesday is filing deadline for Nebraska incumbents seeking re-election
Tuesday marks the final day for incumbent candidates to file for re-election in Nebraska’s 2026 primary election.
Governor Jim Pillen, Senator Pete Ricketts and Representatives Mike Flood and Adrian Smith have already launched their re-election campaigns.
The second congressional district race will not feature an incumbent candidate after Representative Don Bacon announced he would retire.
Non-incumbent candidates have until March 2 to file for the primary election, which is happening on May 12.
Metro Transit holding public meetings over proposed route changes
Metro Transit has scheduled a series of meetings over a set of proposed changes to their bus routes.
The final two meetings in the series are set for:

A release says the meetings will have a presentation and Q+A portion. Proposed route changes include Routes 3, 4, 11, 13 short, 18, 26, 30, and 106.
Omaha’s CHI Health Center expansion hits major milestone
The new convention space at Omaha’s CHI Health Center reached its final height Monday.
The event marked a major milestone in the $200 million expansion project. MECA tells First Alert 6 they hope the expansion brings larger attractions benefitting local businesses.
The expansion will add 90,000 square feet of space, roughly the size of one and a half football fields. The new space will extend from the east side and glass walls will frame views of the Riverfront Parks.
The expansion is expected to be done in the fall of 2027. MECA tells First Alert 6 they have already booked clients through 2030.
